The food
February 4, 2009
Now we get into the good part. Fatty 8 has long been known for its food, which apparently is one of the main reasons people keep coming back here.
The menu is divided into "Hearty Pupu," which includes such things as the Fat Fat Special Chicken (pictured, $10), pork chops ($15), and chopped steak & vegetables with black bean sauce ($14). There's also seafood pupu, like escargot ($11.50), and Chinese pupu like potstickers ($7), Lup Cheong ($6.50) and Chinese sausage ($6.50).
Then there's a separate section for the vegetables, which includes Ong Choy (with optional cake noodles for $10) and fried lettuce ($7). Add a good selection of rice, noodles, and snacks, plus dishes available by special request, and you've got the variety of a full-on Chinese restaurant.
Although some of the prices are a bit high, the portions are generous and the dishes we ordered were pretty tasty. The Special Chicken, for example, was a half-chicken with seasoned skin, fried to crispy perfection with juicy meat on the inside. It was served with a small, simple cup of salt and pepper, although seasoning really wasn't needed.
