With its extensive varieties, high alcohol content and attractive presentations, sake has long had ardent devotees, who regard sake drinking as an artistic endeavor that must be properly understood to have a complete experience.
Due to that expectation, many have shied away from the Japanese rice liquor, seeing it as too intimidating to embrace, or in my case, have had too many occurrences of ordering expensive sake, only to find I didn’t care for the taste.
Sake Street, Wes Zane’s newest departure on Kapahulu Avenue, sets out to soften that exclusivity with its unusual method of presentation and willingness to provide an accessible, educational experience for a range of palates, from beginners to experts.
