First Friday
If checking out art at First Friday is your thing, here are a few galleries worth visiting this month:
The ARTS at Marks Garage will have ceramics on display from the annual raku workshop and festival at Waimanalo Beach.
Chinatown Boardroom will be hosting Stix Flix, a surf movie poster art show, in association with the second annual Surf Film Festival. Each artist created a fictional surf movie poster.
The Contemporary Museum is hosting The Schaefer Portrait Challenge, a collection of portraits that spans drawing, painting, and sculpture. There will also be an artist's talk at 7:30 p.m. with artists Stephen Niles, Madeleine Soder, Nancy Vilhauer and Wane Takazono, who will discuss the trials and rewards of self-portraiture.
