Thanks to the efforts of some very enthusiastic - not to mention, charismatic individuals - Oahu is in the grips of a rhythm from a world away. Six nights a week, there are salsa parties happening in Honolulu.

A great place to start your personal salsa experience is with the complimentary lessons offered at many of these events. The instructors are all reassuring and professional, not to mention gracious.

It doesn't really matter where you decide to go, just try it. It's sexy, fun and a great way to meet people. Here's where you can get in on the action.

International Salsa Night

Zanzabar Nightclub - 2255 Kuhio Ave. - Honolulu

Tuesdays : 8 p.m. - 2 a.m.

Join DJs Mano Lopes from the "Fistful of Ganas" KTUH radio program, DJ Ray Cruz from "Sabor Tropical" radio program and DJ Rod Moreno and Da Lion of Judah as they spin the best in salsa, merengue, Latin house, bachata and reggaeton. 18+ Free salsa dance lessons from 8:15 p.m.-9 p.m.

Hot Salsa Social

The Dance Space - 2615 S. King St. - Honolulu

Fridays : 8:30 p.m.

Hosted by Greg "The Salsaman" Henry. Latin music, dance till you drop, with light pupu and no alcohol. Every Friday at 8:30 p.m. All ages. These patrons and promoters are all about dancing, and it shows.

Salsa Saturday

Dream to Dance - 661 Auahi St. - Honolulu

Saturdays : 9 p.m. - 12 a.m.

Accomplished and festive describes the patrons here every Saturday. Snacks, refreshments and free parking. Partygoers run the gamut in age, and DJ Rod Moreno’s musical selections had all of us feeling like it was Havana in Honolulu. No alcohol is served, so anyone can attend and everyone is welcome.

Ritmo Latino

Cafe Che Pasta - 1001 Bishop St. - Honolulu

Fridays : 9 p.m. - 2 a.m.

DJ Chavo spins merengue, reggaeton, bachata and salsa, and La Friikiitona's models display the latest fashions, 18+.

Sunday Salsa Dance Party

4 Play - 99-016 Kamehameha Highway - Aiea

Sundays : 8 p.m. - 12 a.m.

Rock out to mambo, merengue, bachata, and more, at Foreplay nightclub, previously known as Panama Hattie's. Complimentary lessons from 8 p.m.-9 p.m. Dancing from 9 p.m.-midnight. 18+.
