When Tropics Cafe opened in March 2007, it had the reputation of being a locals-only bar with a great happy hour – a place where folks went to drink and chow down after work. It was also a late-night place for nursing an impending hangover with a hefty burger or loco moco.
But in just over a year, Tropics has blossomed into one of the hottest clubs in Honolulu to catch up-and-coming reggae and hip-hop bands, both from the Islands and the Mainland. Rising local acts such as Rebel Souljahs, Creed Chameleon and Lost at Sea all built their fan base jamming at Tropics, and continue to draw crowds when performing at this Auahi Street club.
So what's the winning formula?
Pretty simple: Cheap drinks, good eats, free live music and a good-natured crowd that keeps the vibe laid back and local.

I love tropics. I've know the crew since they opened (I worked with some of them @ D&B). Pat is awesome and Jess is a sweetheart. They treat you...
