Bizarre foods, local style

Admit it. We all have a fascination with the bizarre. It’s why TV omnivores like Anthony Bourdain and Andrew Zimmern have such large followings. And yet, the crazy foods featured on these shows are edible dishes, enjoyed as delicacies in their home countries. We tasted some foods that are readily available around Honolulu that will satisfy your taste for culinary curiosities… and maybe land you a winning gig on "Fear Factor."
We'll start with that famous Filipino delicacy, balut. Here's my colleague, Art Visaya, coaching me through the delicate nuances of eating a fertilized duck or chicken egg with a nearly-developed embryo inside. He cracked the top half of the shell off and showed me how to drink the "soup" that's in the egg.

You should try the duck version...vietnamese style with fish sauce and thai basil. Yum!
