The decor of Fendu Boulangerie is soft and warm, like Hawaiian sweet bread, which they were baking one morning when we visited. But we didn't come for local-style breads — we're here for the European stuff. There's a view to the bakeshop, where bakers shape loaves and pull breads out of the oven to cool on racks. A sign on the wall describes Fendu's commitment to natural ingredients and butter instead of hydrogenated fats. So far, so good.

I think FB is very, very good. It's product is comparable to the pastries you can get at Thomas Keller's Bouchon in Yountville, CA and The Venetia...
