Green Door Cafe? That hole-in-the-wall that started out in Chinatown, closed down, reopened in Kahala, closed down… now it’s back? In Chinatown? So typical, that. Green Door wouldn’t be Green Door if it were predictable.
This quirky Singaporean-Malaysian hot spot had loyal Chinatown crawlers, Kahala yuppies and the necktie and aloha shirt crowd lining up for the coconut rice, gingery Malaysian curries and wok-sauteed dishes popping with flavors unique to owner Betty Pang’s Southeast Asia. But word was that even the Kahala crowds were thinning before Pang closed again last year. Then on June 1, she reopened in familiar territory, across Indigo on Nuuanu Avenue, behind that curiously lime-green door.
Now for the rest of the story…
