The rice cake mandoo soup (duk mandoo kuk) is just that — chewy rice slices swimming in a broth with mandoo (meat dumplings) and egg. Make no mistake, the mandoo is a winner, with a very authentic, home-cooked taste. But while this soup may be comforting, we wanted a bit more flavor. When we order it next time — and we will — we’ll ask for extra kim chee to give it some kick.

Verdict: Try again, with kim chee
